Popwork
The Objective
My goal was to make sure to trigger managers to send a "response signal" to team members who shared their check-in ( a check-in is a regular 1-to-1 catch-up to step back once a week and surface topics). If there is no reciprocity, then the team members get frustrated and will progressively stop answering plainly to the check-in.

Investigation
Less than a third of monthly active managers (paying) actually share talking points in response to their team members' check-in. It is not sufficiently clear that the manager is expected to share feedback or talking points.

Sample of 1,026 users
I identified thanks to the data above that there was a high amount of managers that were not really aware of the need or visual interaction to give some sort of feedback to their team.
Mapping the possible solutions
Some of the main solutions that I thought about was to give flexibility to the managers to give more than one way of feedback because in the interviews it was said that sometimes it is not necessary to write a paragraph explaining something but some sort of kudos would be quick and efficient for those cases.
Possible solutions I implemented:
-
Having a status when receiving and sending feedback (Pending feedback, Feedback shared, Feedback seen, Pending check-in, Check-in shared, Check-in seen).
-
Create a quick reaction interaction so that managers can react to specific points from the check-in and the team members can react to specific points of the feedback received so there is flexibility in quick and easy reciprocity.
-
Have a more clear, more efficient, and more direct way of giving specific feedback as a manager to their team members.
First wireframes of the status update and more visual direct feedback modal

Quick reactions on specific topics

Conclusion
The implementation of different ways of giving specific or quick feedback increased the interaction between managers and team members.
Both team members and managers were open to interacting with the new features and found it extremely helpful.
